The UWK Unicorn Weight Kit contains five 10-pound weights and the Unicorn mounting hardware needed to attach them to Mercury Lo-Boy, Hercules, or BOSS floor machines. Adding all five weights increases the machine’s total pad pressure by up to 50 lbs — a meaningful increment on stripping and heavy scrubbing tasks where pad-to-finish contact force determines how many passes are needed to complete the job.

When Additional Pad Pressure Improves Stripping and Scrubbing Results

Pad pressure determines how much mechanical force contacts the floor finish per square inch. On a standard Mercury Lo-Boy L-21E at 105 lbs, pad pressure is fixed at the machine’s weight. Adding 50 lbs via the UWK increases that to 155 lbs — a 48% increase in downward force on the same 21″ pad. This is mechanically significant for stripping tasks: thicker finish layers, multi-coat buildup without interim strip cycles, and older finish that has hardened over time all resist the chemical-mechanical action of the stripping pad. The additional 50 lbs of pressure increases the pad’s contact force at the finish surface, which combined with the appropriate chemical dwell time, can convert a two-pass strip to a single-pass strip on most standard commercial finish systems. For a Hercules machine already at 106–108 lbs, the UWK pushes total machine weight to 156–158 lbs — approaching the output of a ride-on floor machine for the largest apron sizes. The weights can also be added in partial increments: 20 lbs for light scrubbing improvement, 30 lbs for standard stripping enhancement, 50 lbs for maximum stripping force on resistant finish.

Unicorn Mounting Hardware and Weight Placement

The Unicorn mounting hardware attaches to specific receiver points on Mercury Lo-Boy, Hercules, and BOSS aprons. Weights stack on the apron deck or fit into the designated mounting positions depending on the machine model. The mounting hardware is designed to prevent the weights from shifting during machine operation — a weight that moves during a stripping pass creates uneven pad pressure that leaves marks on the finish surface. Weights are removed between jobs or when switching from stripping to polishing: adding 50 lbs to a buffing or spray-buffing task increases pad friction heat and can damage finish rather than improving it. Use the full 50 lbs only for stripping and heavy scrubbing with black or green pads; reduce or eliminate added weight for maintenance buffing with white or tan pads.
