Carbon Fiber vs. Forged Carbon — The Difference

Standard Carbon Fiber uses continuous woven fiber sheets producing the classic uniform weave pattern. Clean, technical, and the recognized look for Porsche performance builds. If your 981 has any existing carbon trim, the standard CF weave will integrate cleanly.

Forged Carbon Fiber uses chopped carbon strands compressed under high pressure, creating a random marbled pattern where no two pieces are identical. At $200 more than standard CF, it is the rarer finish — and on a 981, it will be the only ducktail in the room with that pattern.

Will the carbon fiber yellow or fade?
Both CF and forged CF variants are finished with UV-resistant clear coat. Maintain like any clear-coated surface — regular washing, occasional waxing — and it will hold its finish for years.

Is forged carbon worth the extra $200 over standard carbon?
If you want the ducktail to complement existing carbon trim — standard CF. If you want it to be visually distinct from everything else on the car — forged carbon.
